Education (South Dakota)

The South Dakota Transition Services Liaison Program (TSLP) enables students with disabilities to reach their maximum potential in their transition from high school to the adult world. The TSLP staff provides supports and technical assistance to students with disabilities and their families, local education agencies seeking information on transition planning. 605-224-6287 http://www.tslp.org/

Career awareness is a predictor of secondary transition success for students with disabilities. SD MyLife at sdmylife.com, provides students an opportunity to identify with a career that is related to their interest areas and ability. Students have access to this online program beginning in 8th grade until 5 years after they exit public education.

Post-secondary education institutes in South Dakota are committed to providing assistance and accommodations for qualified students with specific disabilities or needs. Colleges and technical institutes receiving federal funds must designate a person to help students with disabilities to access accommodations. http://www.tslp.org/docs/CTW/DisabilityCoordinators012914.pdf
